Union Island
Union Island, part of sovereign the state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, is considered a working island comprised of people who make their living either fishing or working within the tourist industry throughout the Grenadines. Population 5000. It's made up of one town and three villages, one of which you cannot get to by car, only by boat. The unemployment rate, like many islands, is very high, with considerable subsistence living conditions. In spite of these challenges, the people are quite friendly and warm to strangers, etc. My primary focus of this shoot was function and form, of boats, buildings and people and their relationship to the sea.
